A SUP-er Afternoon
A group of our CCF Navy section took to the water for an afternoon of paddleboarding. The cadets showed impressive balance and determination as they mastered their boards, developing their confidence and nautical skills.
Engineering the Future
We were delighted to welcome Nick Ellis (OR 2006), Facilities Manager at Kenard Engineering, to King’s. Nick took a tour of the DT department and STEM hub with aspiring engineers Lily, Reuben and Alex S, before meeting with the Science and DT teams to explore how Kenard’s expertise in aerospace and defence manufacturing could benefit our pupils.
A Velvet Cap for Rosanna
A dedicated dancer for years, Rosanna recently represented England at the Dance World Cup in Spain, winning Gold for 'Essence of Ireland' and two Bronze medals for 'Feet of Flames' and 'Celtic Fusion.' In recognition of these outstanding achievements, she was awarded a prestigious Velvet Cap at this week’s Whole School Service. Well done Rosanna.
MUN Tonbridge Triumph
King's Model UN delegates enjoyed a highly successful day at the Tonbridge School MUN conference, winning four awards. This time around, topics included human rights in armed conflicts, weapons in outer space, and the Iran crisis, with King's providing delegations for Mexico, Germany, and Iran itself.
All MUN delegates are thrown into the deep end when they join, with Tonbridge no exception, and at every conference, the pupils' ambitions increase. With three first-time delegates, it was wonderful to see all of them contributing, including in the General Assembly. The King's Iran delegation also provided the resolution chosen for the GA debate, involving all schools. This controversially included not supporting NATO, with Ben H and Polina C on stage in defence. The other King's countries refused to back their sister delegation, Reuben D (Mexico) speaking against it - the resolution was voted down, but created excellent debate.
Prizes for King's saw two highly commended delegates: Iman M for her driving role in DISEC, and Nifemi O for Ecosoc (after joining MUN three days before!). Outstanding delegate went to Ben H, for his unflinching frankness as Iran on the Security Council.
This was topped off for King's by Iran winning outstanding delegation at the conference overall, a fantastic achievement.
As the Tonbridge Chair pointed out, all the delegates' contributions are what makes the conference a success, and there are limited prizes. Every King's delegate should be proud of the work they put in beforehand, and their effort for their country on the day. Congratulations to Anne AA, Jasmin B, Sarah B, Polina C, Reuben D, Ben H, Josephine HR, Iman M, Neha N, Nifemi O and Vihr T on a great Model UN conference.
